Bad Manners

SKAWASH & POLITE RIOT PRESENTS:
New Cross Inn, New Cross, London

16th May 2009

BAD MANNERS + SWAGGA + DANNY FONTAINE & THE HORNS OF FURY

I have wanted to see Bad Manners live for years and so was really looking forward to tonight.

The first band up was Swagga (Essex) who merge ska with hip-hop.  The band were quite good musicians, but I felt that the set lacked "oomph" and would probably benefit from getting a drummer rather than using a backing track.  If you want something similar check out Rotten Hill Gang.

Next up was Danny Fontaine & The Horns of Fury (Kingston).  These guys are nuts!  They put on a very energetic show of full band ska-punk which occasionally had a country/bandito feel, and even snuck in a very random cover of "Survivor" by Destiny's Child.  Definitely recommend checking them out.

Time for the main event and I was a bit excited.

Bad Manners bounded onto the stage with an instrumental to get us warmed up.  They did songs like "My Girl Lollipop" and "Lip Up Fatty" which I remember fondly from my childhood.  I'm not very au fait with their work and so couldn't tell you what all the songs were and there was no set list to liberate.

About halfway through Max Splodge takes to the stage with the band and gives such favourites as "Harry May" and "2 Pints of Larger and a Packet of Crisps, Please" to a still heady crowd.

Bad Manners closed their show with an encore of "The Can-Can", and those of you who know me know I never dance, but I was front and centre with everyone else, bouncing away.

It was good to be able to see them in a small, more intimate venue and I would definitly go again... Good Times!
