MAN OR ASTROMAN?
‘Your Weight On The Moon’
Label: Overground
Cat. No. OVER 127CD / 127LP (limited picture disc)
Barcode: CD 689492106225 - LP 689492108267
Release Date: 26th September 2011

Man or Astroman? claimed to be not the space-music surf-rockers they appear, but instead, unlikely emissaries from another galaxy who accidentally crashed their spaceship near Auburn, Alabama. Since that day in 1992, Man or Astroman? have released over two dozen seven-inch singles and seven full-length albums of dizzying, instrumental guitar virtuosity wedded to sounds derived from the quasi-modern technology of a Hammond organ or Theremin.

Band members Starcrunch (guitar), Birdstuff (drums), Coco the Electronic Monkey Wizard (bass and a battery of electronic gear), joined forces in Auburn, Alabama, in 1992 at a time when half of the band was underage and couldn't get into their own shows except through the stage door.

John Peel played their debut EP and a highly impressed One Louder approached the band and in December 1993 released the masterpiece ‘Mission Into Chaos’ 7”. The band toured the UK and their outrageous live show which included flaming computer headpieces, 50s b-movie graphics and tesla coils won them a legion of fans.

Next up in August 1994 came the genre-defining and ground-breaking ‘Your Weight On The Moon’ 10-track mini-album on luminous colour vinyl and CD. John Peel, Marc Radcliffe, the music press and live audiences couldn’t get enough of them and the album entered the independent charts at No. 7.

May 1995 the ‘Return To Chaos’ EP was released, packaged in a top secret dossier format and with a track so secretive its name was classified. The EP charted at No. 4 in the top 10 independent singles chart.

Man or Astroman? would continue to release many more records on One Louder, Touch & Go and Epitaph, but it is for this period that a majority of their fans will most fondly remember them.

This reissue compiles ‘Your Weight On The Moon’ with the two EPs in a 16-page booklet. It is the first time that some of the tracks have appeared on CD.

TRACK LISTING:
Rocketship XL-3/ Secret Agent Conrad Uno/ Electrostatic Brain Field/ Shockwave/ Taser Guns Mean Big Fun/ F=GmM(moon)/ Space Patrol/ Happy Fingers/ Destination Venus/ Polaris/ Name of Numbers/ Of Sex and Demise/ Madness in the Streets/ Within a Martian Heart/ Point Blank/ Classified/ Secret Agent Conrad Uno/ Point Blank/ Goldfinger

ZOUNDS
‘THE REDEMPTION OF ZOUNDS’
Label: Overground
Cat. No. OVER 128CD Barcode: 689492106829
Release Date: 25th July 2011

Legendary English underground band Zounds first came to prominence in the early 1980s with a string of independent chart hits on Rough Trade and Crass Records.

Growing out of the squatter communities of London and the south east they quickly became key figures in the burgeoning D.I.Y. / anarcho-punk scene and toured Britain and Europe with contemporaries such as The Mob, Poison Girls, Crass, The Birthday Party and many others.

On record their sound was a little more expansive than many of their punk contemporaries. In his History of Rough Trade, Rob Young described Zounds music as, 'a distinctively paranoid and claustrophobic sonic crush that avoided formulaic protest song'. Their Rough Trade album 'The Curse Of Zounds' is now seen as a classic of the genre and one of the most inspirational albums of the post-punk period.

Since their early 1980s heyday, and despite endless offers to record and tour, Zounds have only ever played intermittently. Songwriter and lead singer Steve Lake is notoriously reclusive, he will only rarely be persuaded to come out and play. The 10 songs he has written for the new album retain all the hall marks of the classic template; incisive lyrics, sharp guitars, satirical overtones, emotional terror and great, memorable tunes. Yet it sounds totally at home in a modern world that, Steve claims, ‘is as bewildering, absurd, tragic and joyful as it ever was’. Steve is 2000 years old!

The current line up is Steve Lake – guitar, Paul ‘overdose O’Donnell – bass, Paul Gilbert –drums. All the boys sing like angels and play like demons.

TRACK LISTING:
Cry Genie Cry/ Supermarche/ Make Love Not War/ Another Roadside Attraction/ What Makes A Man A Man Today (slight return)/ What Is It Worth?/ Damage/ Follow The Money/ Deportee/ Waiting For The Clampdown Honey

No. OVER 124 CD Release Date: 16th August 2010

Paranoid Visions, formed in 1981 were part of the early anarcho punk stable of bands...what made them different was that they were from Dublin in Ireland and this isolation resulted in them developing a unique sound.

Their debut 7” The Robot Is Running Amok and their debut LP Schizophrenia were released on The Mob’s All The Madmen label.

During the 1980s Paranoid Visions became a very succesful and borderline mainstream crossover act in their home country turning down several advances from major labels in order to keep the moral highground. Their track Beauty Queen appeared in the 1991 BAFTA winning and Oscar nominated movie The Commitments.

In 2005 the band reformed (having previously reformed for an offered slot on the Sex Pistols Filthy Lucre tour and later for a slot on The Damned's 25th anniversary tour) and since then have been very prolific releasing three singles, two new albums and two back catalogue albums along with a live recording from the early 1990s.

2009 saw their last album Beware Of The God building on their commercial success in Ireland and expanding their fanbase worldwide. The album was voted the 107th best album in the history of Irish music by the Irish music industry.

This year will also see the band’s music appear in two films: 3 Crosses and Little Foxes (Cottbus Film Festival winner).

Black Operations In The Red Mist is a 39 track 2 x CD retrospective packed in a 20 page booklet with detailed band history, included six previously unreleased versions.

Track Listing:
Strobelight And Torture/ Asleep At The Wheel/ Autonomy/ Second Hand Daylight/ Missing In Action/ Ignore It/ Strange Girl/ Acts Of Love/ I Will Wallow/ TV Ads/ Sex Kills/ Vandals/ Don’t Vote For Freedom/ Lies/ Revolution/ Look At Me/ Creeping/ An Bfhuil Tu Sasta/ Home Sweet Home/ Fritzl’s Basement/ Visions/ Cycles Of Christs/ Politician/ Braindance/ The Feast/ The Bombsong/ War Is Over/ Fan The Flames/ Time Bomb/ I Will Wallow (’96 Version)/ Rhythm Of Injustice/ Something More/ Newtownism/ Adventure Playground/ Detention/ City Of Screams/ Against The Wall/ Fences/ Bondage (When We Get Out)

Overground Records, PO Box 1NW,
Newcastle-upon-Tyne, NE99 1NW

IGNORANCE is not bliss!

Well seems this is a Rants and Raves post here goes my list of things to rant about.

1. Ignorance
2. Lack of dedication
3. Rudeness
4. Being took for granted
5. Discrimination

...

The list goes on and on but i'l leave at those ones for now because,

1. When people People ask you to do something and you are willing to do it e.g Photoshoots! They shouldn't ask you and then when you message to get dates etc sorted out ignore your messages!
Bands shouldn't take it upon themselves to ask you to take time out to listen to what they do and let them know what you think if they're not gonna give you the time of day back, get a little give a little, it's how it works! They also shouldn't repeatedly send you messages to go to gigs and then not acknowledge people when they go and give them support!
It's just pure ignorance!

2. Don't get involved in something if you're not actually willing to do it!
Why start a band and think it's a marvellous idea when your not even going to enjoy yourself and have fun and then back out of every opportunity you get! it's called dedication get some or don't waste everyone elses time!

3. Just because i am a model does not mean i am here to be treated like a piece of meat! I don't send you lot vulgar messages saying what i would do to you if i got the chance! keep it to yourself!
Also just because i do what i do and you might be in a band does not mean i'm going to come running and drop my pants! it's not going to happen! I am a person i have feelings so don't treat me like some sort of idiot! I love what i do and i'm not going to fall at your feet if you play an instrument in a band.
Treat me with respect and i'll respect you back, manners cost nothing!

4. Just because some of us are nice people and will help others out is not an excuse to try and worm your way in and drain us of everything because we will get you back for it in the end.

and finally...

5. Looking the way i do and being the way i am does NOT make me a criminal, because i have ink in my skin does NOT make me unemployable, because i dye my hair and have piercings does NOT make me a lesbian and also because i'm a model it does NOT automatically make me a slut.
There are so many stupid stereotypes which makes people who aren't afraid to express then individuality be discriminated against. how come if something goes missing or something goes wrong it's automatically the one with metal in their face or the one with the tattoos or the one with the spikey hair or the one with the leather jacket and boots ... no it's probably not us, infact if something goes missing and we find it we're probably the one to come give you it back!

So from me for now my rant is over, i think it's time for a cig.

Punk Hugs and Pixie Dust

Reb xxx
